Coral Springs Commission Recognizes Local Teen Participation in Public Art Program
The Coral Springs Commission recently recognized five first-grade students from St. Andrew Roman Catholic School for their participation in the city’s public art program.
Daniel Cerri, Patrick Cerri, Amanda Liceaga, Daniel Otto and Santiago Serrano visited all of the artworks and submitted written opinions about their favorite sculpture currently displayed along Sample Road. Teacher Mary Sue Maluda proposed the idea to her students and made it a voluntary project.
Coral Springs Honors Advanced Cable Communications for 30 Years of Service
The Coral Springs Commission recently proclaimed April as Advanced Cable Communications month in honor of its 30-year anniversary of providing service to the city. Throughout the past three decades, Advanced Cable has earned a record of community involvement by supporting countless civic, educational and charitable organizations and initiatives.
Coral Springs Receives Urban and Community Forestry Grant
Coral Springs recently received a $37,500 Urban and Community Forestry grant through the Florida Department of Agriculture and Community Services. This grant helped fund the city’s Street Tree Subsidy Program, which was initiated in 2006 to assist homeowners in replacing street trees destroyed or damaged as a result of Hurricane Wilma. The program has been nationally recognized and won a second place award at the 2007 Neighborhoods USA conference in the category of physical neighborhood revitalization. To date, the program has helped pay for the planting of over 2,000 trees citywide, including Live Oak, Gumbo Limbo, and West Indian Mahogany Red Maple.
Summer Dance Classes in Coral Springs
A series of four-week hip hop, ballet, tap and jazz dance classes for children ages three and older will take place at the Coral Springs Gymnasium throughout the summer. Participants may choose weekly 45-minute or one-hour classes; the cost is $35 for a 45-minute session or $40 for a one-hour session. American Musical Journey Show in Coral Springs
The Coral Springs Center for the Arts will host the show An American Musical Journey at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 25. The show will feature the Dallas Brass performing music from famed composers. World Tai Chi/Qigong Day Event at Coral Springs Whole Foods Market
Whole Foods Market will hold a free World Tai Chi and Qigong Day event from noon-4 p.m. Saturday, April 26. The event will feature various accessories for sale, including inspirational DVDs, CDs, organic clothing and Earth shoes; no reservations are required.

Simply Me Day Spa will hold a cystic fibrosis fundraiser from 6-9 p.m. Thursday, May 1; the event will feature a 30-minute spa service, food, drinks and goody bags. Sticky Fingers Program, Camp in Coral Springs
A Sticky Fingers program and camp will take place at Sartory Senior Center in Mullins Park throughout the summer; both events will feature young participants using paint, dough, textures and other mediums to complete three projects with an instructor and parental assistance. The camp for children ages 4-7 will run from 9 a.m.-noon Monday, Aug. 4 through Friday, Aug. 8 and the cost is $100 for the week; the regular program for children ages 2-5 will take place from 9:30-10:15 a.m. or 10:30-11:15 a.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, beginning Tuesday, June 10 and running for three consecutive weeks and the cost is $26.25 for the session. Kids Kabaret in Coral Springs
The Coral Springs Parks & Recreation Department will hold a Kids Kabaret program for young participants from 8:15 a.m.-3 p.m. throughout the summer; the program will teach participants music from various Broadway musicals, accompanied by choreography, for presentations to be performed for parents; the participants will receive instruction on voice, stage presentation and acting skills. The theme for June’s program is “High School Musical” for children ages 6-12 and “High School Musical 2” for children ages 12-16, and July’s theme is “High School Musical 2” for children ages 6-12 and “Hairspray” for children ages 12-16; the cost is $500 per session or $125 per week, plus a $20 supply fee to be brought the first day of camp.
