Coral Springs Replaces Lost Trees Through Urban Forestry Hurricane Grant

As a result of receiving $50,000 from the Urban and Community Forestry Grant Program, Coral Springs recently replaced over 400 median trees and palms lost during Hurricane Wilma. About 15 different types of trees and five varieties of palms were planted throughout the community.

Free Senior Wellness Classes in Coral Springs

Coral Springs residents over the age of 55 are invited to attend free senior wellness classes at the Sartory Senior Center in Mullins Park at 11 a.m. Mondays throughout the month of May. National Day of Prayer in Coral Springs

Coral Springs will commemorate National Day of Prayer on the front lawn of City Hall at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 1; participants of all faiths will come together for a candlelight service. Coffee with the Mayor in Coral Springs

Local residents will have the opportunity to meet with Coral Springs Mayor Scott Brook and discuss any concerns with the city at Whole Foods Market from 8:30-10 a.m. Friday, May 2. Complimentary Allegro coffee and breakfast pastries will be served while supplies last; an appointment is required. Author Appearance at Coral Springs Museum of Art

George Rodrigue, co-author of the book What Makes Blue Dog Blue?, will appear at the Coral Springs Museum of Art at 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 2. Rodrigue will meet and greet participants, as well as sign books, during the event. Hors d’oeuvres will be served by Bonefish Grill and wine will be provided by WineStyles. Free Comic Day Event in Coral Springs

Northwest Regional Library will hold a free Comic Book Day event for teenagers ages 12-18 from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, May 3. Participants will learn the finer points of cartoon art, the tricks of creating a “gag” and character design; all participants will leave with a comic strip of their own creation. Coral Springs Organization Holds Event in Davie

Coral Springs-based One Planet United will hold its Unity in Our Community Celebration for Broward and Palm Beach County residents at Bailey Concert Hall in Davie at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 4. Coral Springs Fundraiser to Benefit JAFCO

Simply Me Day Spa will host a fundraiser to benefit JAFCO (Jewish Adoption and Foster Care Options) from 7-10 p.m. Wednesday, May 7. Chabad of Coral Springs will hold a Lag B’Omer event at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 22. Meet-The-Artists Fundraiser at Coral Springs Museum of Art

The Renfrew Center Foundation, the non-profit arm of the eating disorder treatment facility The Renfrew Center, will celebrate the opening of its Expressing the Voices Within: Images of Eating Disorders exhibit with a cocktail reception at the Coral Springs Museum of Art at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 22; the reception will include an early look at the exhibit creations and a chance to meet the artists, all of whom are eating disorder patients on the path to recovery. All proceeds from the show will benefit a patient treatment scholarship program, so that all people suffering from an eating disorder can get the help they need. Identity Theft Event in Coral Springs

An identity theft event will take place at Sartory Senior Center in Mullins Park from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, May 31. During the event, local residents will be able to drop off personal paperwork where it will be shredded to help prevent identity theft. There is no cost to participants. Recycling Old Phone Books in Coral Springs
Single-family residents in Coral Springs can currently recycle old phone books curbside until Saturday, May 31. The phone books can be placed on top of newspapers or other recycling material; multi-family residents should place phone books in their newspaper recycling carts. Businesses, and others who do not have access to phone book recycling, may drop off used directories at the city’s recycling drop-off in the parking lot behind City Hall South, 9530 W. Sample Rd. Artists Wanted for Upcoming Coral Springs Artist Guild Exhibit

The Coral Springs Artist Guild is currently looking for artists to take part in its next exhibit that will be held in conjunction with the Gard Gallery in the Parkland Town Center. Crazy Chemistry Summer Camp in Coral Springs

A Crazy Chemistry summer camp for children ages 6-12 will take place at Sawgrass Springs Middle School from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 10 through Friday, June 13; the hands-on camp will introduce participants to lab works, chemical reactions, basic tools and techniques.
