Marie DiSangro, a graduating senior at Monarch High School in Coconut Creek, was recently awarded a $1,000 scholarship by the Italian American Club of Coconut Creek.
The presentation was made by Julie Bertelli, scholarship committee chairman, at a dinner meeting in Deer Creek Country Club.
The local student is a Coconut Creek resident and the daughter of Diane D’Alessandro.
She will attend Broward Community College for two years, and then transfer to New World School of the
Arts in Miami. She plans to obtain a Master’s degree in choral conducting and teach at the university level.
DiSangro has been singing since she was a youngster at talent shows, weddings and other events and has been a counselor in training for four summers at Camp Renegade.
By invitation, she will participate this summer in an 18-day concert tour of Europe sponsored by the US Youth Ensemble. The group will present concerts in six countries.
