The scent of homemade blueberry muffins and chocolate chip waffles filled the air as customers breathed in the aroma.

At the same time, owners Sal Sabella and Patricia DiGiovanni Sabella, along with their business partner Michele Bosco Hale greeted those customers with a fresh cup of coffee and a welcoming smile.

A sweet lover and health nut can get their daily fix at The Breakfast Joint in Coral Springs.

The newly opened restaurant serves up breakfast and lunch seven days a week- and every dish is homemade.

Long time friends Patricia and Michele are the master bakers behind the restaurant’s delicious biscottis, homemade bagels and cream cheese, and every other delicacy from muffins, fresh fruit smoothies, and waffles.

The duo wakes up at 4 every morning to start baking fresh cookies and muffins.

“Everything is baked homemade on the premise,” said the owners in unison.

Sal added, “We have a full bakery, which includes 24 different kinds of flavored bagels, muffins, and croissants. We bake them all on the premise every morning.”

In addition to the various flavored bagels, other homemade items include specialty cream cheeses, fresh fruit smoothies and protein shakes, a full coffee bar, and fresh salads. The location also features Barnie’s Coffee and Boar’s Head meat for its lunch sandwiches.

Soon, pancakes and omelets will also be available.

“Guests can come and have breakfast or lunch. We have bagels, croissants or wraps. Everything is freshly made to order,” said Sal.

“Customers call us the little Starbucks with food, and nothing is pre-packaged here. Everything is baked fresh.”

Another unique feature is that customers can surf the Internet thanks to its wireless connection. In addition, the atmosphere is charming and the employees always greet customers with a smile at the family owned and operated restaurant.

Michele and Patricia are always a staple at The Breakfast Joint whether they are in the kitchen or serving customers.

Sal helps out on the weekends and in between his full time job of owning an advertising firm. The Sabella’s children, Christina, Elizabeth, and Salvatore, and Hale’s children, Lauren and Max, help out at the register and greeting patrons.

“It’s nice to have the family together and all the kids here,” said Patricia and Michele.

Having a passion for baking, the two friends decided to turn their love into a business- even before opening the restaurant.

They started Michelatti Gourmet and created a small version of the traditional biscotti, called biscottini.

heir biscottinis and other baked goods are sold in supermarkets, convenience stores and cafes across the country and now at their own restaurant.

“We were looking for a bakery to make our cookies and biscottis, but we found this place. It was a perfect match,” said Michele.

Now sweet lovers can dine in, take out, or call The Breakfast Joint to cater a party.

“People can call ahead and place orders, and in about 10 minutes it’s ready,” said Sal.

The Breakfast Joint is located at 5781 Coral Ridge Drive, Coral Springs (in the Shoppes at Heronakes) and open everyday from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information or to place an order, call 954-344-1287.
